Antonio Chiang’s Speech on “Taiwan and the World”

The vice president of the General Association of Chinese Culture, Antonio Chiang, was invited to deliver a speech on “Taiwan and the World” on November 3rd 2017 in Central Police University (CPU).

Chiang was a diplomatic journalist, later on he devoted to the news industry. He was also the founder/co-founder of several journals such as “The Eighties”, “The Journalist”. In addition, he was also the Chairperson of “The Capital Morning Post”, “Taiwan Daily” and the publisher of the first English newspaper in Taiwan “Taipei Times”.

Chiang spent nearly 50 years in the field of news industry. Besides serving as the Vice Secretary Director of National Security Council in 2000, he also returned to news industry since 2004. He served as the consultant of the “Taiwan Apple Daily” and his work “Viewpoint from Ssu-Ma” won the 32nd Tseng Hsu-pai Journalism Award.

Chiang delivered a speech on “Taiwan and the World”. He explored the topic and shared the view Taiwan and the whole world inside-out. Chiang reminded the students to think about the reason that hidden behind things and not to trust things with their eyes through his experiences of travelling around the world while he was young. Do not take it for granted about what you see without further thoughts.

Chiang also mentioned Taiwan’s advantages and the future outlook from the view of Taiwan’s position. He told the students to recognize our country and cherish everything around us. He also encouraged CPU students possess some characteristics that other universities do not possess. Therefore, we should not complain nor underestimate ourselves. We should set up our ideal and target. Those who has dream will not be defeated easily for they focus on the future. The speech lasted for 70 minutes, students were impressed. It also brought all of us abundant historical information and advices.
